General Information, Maps & Planning

Construction of Phase II, the South Boston section of the Trail, began mid-March and was completed late summer 2012.

Construction of Phase III, the section that will connect Town of Brodnax to the Town of Lawrenceville is proposed to begin in late summer 2012 and will take approximately a year to complete. This will result in 17 miles of trail!

Funding has been provided to assist in the cost of design and construction of a Trail segment in the Town of Boydton. In the Fall of 2011, an application for additional funding was submitted to have the Trail constructed from Washington Street to Prison Road.

The Tobacco Heritage Trail Management Plan is available online. This plan discusses trail rules and regulations, design standards, maintenance, and other policies. The plan is located on the “Volunteer Page”.

South Boston applied to the Virginia Recreational Trails program to obtain a construction grant for a portion of the Tobacco Heritage Trail within South Boston. A map of this section of Tobacco Heritage Trail is also available see the link.

The master planning for the complete Tobacco Heritage Trail, The Overall Master Plan began in 2007. Site reconnaissance was conducted in September, October and November of 2007.
