Volunteers Get Down and Dirty

Olive Branch Baptist Church participated in a day of service projects around the community and chose to help out the Tobacco Heritage Trail! When Pastor Wayne Guynn contacted us to find out how they could help, we knew just how to put them to work. There was a problem area near the Regional Airport in Brodnax that we’d been itching to tackle for years. Sometimes on a summer stroll you could catch a glimpse of the bright pink of a kid’s Barbie car that was dumped there an era ago. However, in the fall and winter seasons the leaves would drop their green privacy screen revealing a regular dumping spot fit for the delights of Oscar the Grouch. The Barbie car was just a sneak peek of an eclectic variety of junk, including an old TV, tires, scrap wood, plastic, mangled metal picnic table and other unidentified items.

Pastor Guynn and seven other volunteers mustered their forces Saturday morning and staged a full-on assault on the offending litter. After three hours they had wrangled 33 tires, (including racing tires), a truck bed full of scrap decking wood, the TV, two kiddie cars, and a giant moss-covered stuffed panda that must have hibernated there for years. What an accomplishment from these hard working individuals! The trail is more beautiful for everyone thanks to your service and we thank you that your tireless efforts have made this spot Tire-Less!
