Roanoke River Rails-to-Trails, Inc.
The Tobacco Heritage Trail, a planned network of mostly off-road multi-use trails utilizing former railroad right-of-way, is managed by the Roanoke River Rails-to-Trails, Inc. (RRRT). Officially incorporated in 2004, the RRRT has a vision to construct over 150 miles of connecting recreation trails across the counties of Brunswick, Charlotte, Halifax, Lunenburg, and Mecklenburg. To-date, over 25 miles of off-road trails have been constructed and 29 miles of on-road routes have been established. The Tobacco Heritage Trail was selected as the name of the trails network in recognition of the importance of the tobacco industry in the development of Southside Virginia.
