In 2020 the Southside Planning District Commission coordinated with the Virginia Department of Transportation to have a temporary trail counter placed on the La Crosse section of the Tobacco Heritage Trail. From late June through early October in 2020, this segment of the trail averaged 70 trips past the counter per day, with a peak day of 181. Pedestrians accounted for 62.5 percent of trail use while bicycles made up the 37.5 percent. The full report can be found below, as well as a chart that shows trail use based upon that days weather.
